Heading to Peru
I want to make an urgent plea. It is not everyday that I get an opportunity to check something off of my bucket list. I have been asked to come and speak to over 90 Pioneer missionaries in Lima, Peru, South America. Why is this opportunity on my bucket list?
Both my undergraduate and my graduate degree were in Missions. I believed that my entire life would be spent serving God in other countries around the world. Many of you know my story. God showed up about 20 years ago when Dawn and I were getting ready to leave Brandon, FL to head overseas and sent a longhaired prophet to mess up our plans.
God made it abundantly clear in one very specific answer to prayer that He wanted us to stay here in the US and that He wanted to use us here. God began to disciple us to do the things that He taught His disciples to do 2000 years ago. I have so often thought that it would be so valuable for missionaries to learn the lessons that I have learned before they head overseas. We have learned so much about spiritual warfare and missionaries face that in such intense ways. We have learned to walk in a supernatural Christian life. That too would be so helpful and vital to effectively reach people in other countries. The Lord knows the desires of our heart and I’ve had a desire to both minister to missionaries who have been through intense trials and also teach them.
Over the last 20 years the Lord has continued to use me and take me overseas to many countries and I often see some of the greatest miracles when I travel. I’ve seldom interacted with missionaries anywhere that the Lord has taken me. But the Lord knew the desire of my heart. I’ve been asked to be both a speaker at this conference and when I shared that I would also love to minister to any missionaries who want prayer ministry/counseling they were excited. Our time will be packed on this trip. We will get to pour ourselves out for those who serve the Lord in forgotten places on this planet. These are frontline missionaries.
For more than 35 years, Pioneers’ passion has been to see God glorified among those who are physically and spiritually isolated from the gospel of Jesus Christ—from Muslim bedouins in the deserts of North Africa and animist villagers in the jungles of South America to secular humanists in Eastern Europe and middle-class Buddhist urbanites in the sprawling cities of East Asia.
The mission is covering the food and transportation for our team while we are with them. We’ve included 3 days to see some of Lima and visit a church pastored by Cesar Castelanos whom I met years ago. It is a 40,000 member church that is doing amazing things in Lima. We have a team of 5 and each of us needs to raise $1200. So the total cost for us will be $6,000. My son Philip will also be coming with me. So the two of us are seeking $2400.
Would you please join us and help us impact the lives of these missionaries and the many lives they impact? You will also help me check one thing off my bucket list.
